Four years back, Train To Busan gained massive fame worldwide which had star cast- Gong Yoo, Choi Woo Shik, Ma Dong Seok, Jung Yu Mi and last but not the least the child actor Kim Soo Ahn. It was premiered in 2016 Cannes Film Festival and was the first Korean film to break the audience record of over 10 million. The budget of the movie was 8.5 million USD and hit the Box Office at 98.5 million USD. Now that was Jackpot!!!!
This year the director Yeon Sang Ho is giving us the sequel with a new cast and we are more than excited after watching the trailer.
A group of four survivors leave the Korean peninsula in ship after escaping the zombie outbreak but two of them are killed by the zombies in the ship. The other two survivors Jung Seok (Gang Dong Won) who is a marine captain and his brother in law Chul Min(Kim Do Yoon) arrive at Hong Kong. Four years later, Jung Seok, Chul Min and two more Koreans are given a project by the Hong Kongers. This project requires the four Koreans to go back to the Korean peninsula and retrieve a bag of cash from a food truck which is worth 20 Million USD. They succeed in locating the truck and retrieving the bag but are chased by zombies and we have to watch the movie for the rest of the story.
South Korea is known for its Thriller, Action and Horror movies and as usual this movie was also selected to be shown at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival which had to be cancelled due to Covid19. The movie hit the theaters of South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore on 15th July and scored about 20 million USD at the Box Office. The US and Canada release date is 7th August.
However, we had to look into the reviews of the audience in order to hold our horses. These are the few lines from viewers of South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore.
1. "I had high hopes for this movie as I had been waiting for years to watch it. When I first viewed the trailer, it made me a bit concerned but I thought the director might've had something up his sleeve, but when I finally watched the movie, I was both disappointed and well, satisfied? The movie had more flaws than the first one, but the destruction of the city of Seoul 4 years later was unbelievable. I think Yeon's idea was really fantastic. The scenes with sunrise were really filmed well and could even be a poster. However, the story lacked character development and realism." says Jeremy Liang. (you can see the reviews in Google)
2. "Train to Busan was better, but this movie is still great on its own. An entirely different plot with a new set of characters (no returning stars), set four years after TTB. The movie presented a fresh new look on the zombie situation in the Korean Peninsula, and the acting, cinematography, and story did not disappoint. Definitely worth watching this roller coaster of emotions :))"
3. "I'm in the cinema watching this right now, its so disappointing that Im actually writing a review half way through to movie. The story is really weak compared to the predecessor. The first movie’s story was compelling, engaging and you’re always at the edge of your seat as you want the characters to escape as if you were with them. Most of the characters were memorable, even some of the extras."
After reading the reviews we are more excited to watch the movie, be it bad or good because its only natural for people to have different opinions. We are waiting for the worldwide release. Lets hope for the best.
